OVERVIEW
What is a breast lift?
A breast lift (mastopexy) raises and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin, tightening the surrounding tissue and moving the nipple to a higher, more youthful position. It changes position and firmness rather than size — if you also want more fullness, a lift can be combined with implants in the same operation. At NewMe it takes 2 to 3 hours under general anaesthetic at Anatolia Hospital in Antalya, and most UK patients stay about 5 days.
Why breasts sag: pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss and natural ageing all stretch the skin envelope. A lift restores the shape you had using your own tissue, and stretched or enlarged areolas can be reduced in the same procedure. It is often combined with a tummy tuck as part of a mummy makeover.
WHICH PROCEDURE?
Which breast procedure is right for me?
Lift, implants — or both? It depends on whether your concern is position, volume or both. Your surgeon tells you honestly which approach fits your anatomy, including when a lift alone is enough.
| Your goal | Best fit | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Happy with size, unhappy with sagging | Breast lift | Raises and reshapes using your own tissue |
| Happy with position, want more volume | Breast augmentation | Adds fullness with implants |
| Sagging plus lost upper fullness, common after breastfeeding | Lift with implants | Repositions and restores volume in one operation |
| Heavy breasts causing discomfort | Reduction with lift | Reduces weight and lifts in one procedure |
IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?
Am I a candidate for a breast lift?
A lift suits women whose breasts have dropped or lost shape. Suitability is confirmed by your surgeon after photo review and consultation.
✓ Your breasts have sagged after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss, or your nipples point downward or sit below the breast crease
✓ Your weight has been stable and you are not planning a pregnancy in the near future
✓ You are a non-smoker, or willing to stop at least 4 weeks before and after surgery
✓ You are in good general health, with realistic expectations about scars and results
Better to wait if you are planning pregnancy or significant weight loss soon — both can stretch the result again.
THE PROCEDURE
How does breast lift surgery work?
The operation takes 2 to 3 hours under general anaesthetic. The incision pattern is matched to how much your breasts have dropped — your surgeon always chooses the shortest scar that can deliver the lift you need.
| Technique | Usually suits | Scar |
|---|---|---|
| Peri-areolar (“donut”) | Mild sagging | Around the edge of the areola only |
| Vertical (“lollipop”) | Moderate sagging — the most common technique | Around the areola plus a vertical line down to the breast crease |
| Inverted-T (“anchor”) | Significant sagging, especially after major weight loss | Lollipop scar plus a line along the breast crease |
| Lift with implant | Sagging with lost upper fullness | Any of the above, with the implant placed in the same operation |
Scars sit where bras and bikini tops cover them, and fade substantially over 6–12 months.
YOUR SURGEONS
Who will perform my breast lift?
Breast surgery at NewMe is performed by our two board-certified plastic surgeons. Your assessment tells you which surgeon will operate and why.
Op. Dr. Houtan Zolfagharpour
Board-certified plastic surgeon and NewMe’s lead body contouring specialist. Breast lift and lift with augmentation are core procedures in his mummy makeover and post-weight-loss practice.
Op. Dr. Bahadır Demirkan
Board-certified plastic surgeon, former Assistant Professor and TUS top-100 graduate — bringing academic precision and a keen eye for proportion to breast lift and combination procedures.
YOUR HOSPITAL
Where is my breast lift performed?
Your operation and your hospital nights take place at Anatolia Hospital in Antalya — one of NewMe’s contracted institutions, accredited by Temos for Quality in Medical Care. An anaesthetist looks after you during surgery and the hospital’s nursing team cares for you around the clock while you are an inpatient. After discharge you recover in a hotel nearby, with our coordinators checking on you until your fit-to-fly review.
RECOVERY
What is recovery like after a breast lift?
Week 1
Surgical bra worn day and night; swelling and tightness are normal and well managed with simple pain relief. Walking from day one and a fit-to-fly review before you travel home, usually around day 5.
Week 2–6
Desk work typically from week 1–2. Avoid heavy lifting and raising your elbows above your shoulders early on; a sports bra replaces the surgical bra as your surgeon advises.
Month 3
Swelling resolves and your breasts settle into their new position. Most exercise is back to normal.
Month 6–12
Scars soften and fade towards fine lines.
SAFETY
What are the risks of a breast lift?
A breast lift is a common, well-established operation, but like any surgery it carries risks. Your surgeon goes through them with you before you book. If implants are part of your plan, we recommend reading the NHS overview of breast implants as well.
Common and expected
Swelling, bruising and tightness; temporary numbness of the nipples; visible scars that fade over 6–12 months.
Less common
Slow healing where the incisions meet, slight asymmetry, a fluid or blood collection, infection, and thicker scars. With implants: hardening of the scar tissue around the implant (capsular contracture) and the need for future implant surgery.
Rare but serious
Permanent changes in nipple sensation, reduced blood supply to the nipple, blood clots, and reactions to the anaesthetic.
How we reduce your risk: a full health check before surgery; stopping smoking at least 4 weeks before and after; choosing the shortest-scar technique that can deliver your lift; a supportive surgical bra and early walking; and a fit-to-fly review before you travel home.

FOR UK PATIENTS
Planning a breast lift in Turkey from the UK
NHS and breast lifts
A breast lift for cosmetic reasons is not usually available on the NHS, so most UK patients have the operation privately, at home or abroad.
Direct flights, about 4 hours
Antalya has direct flights from London, Manchester, Birmingham and other UK airports. UK passport holders can visit Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days.
What your package covers
The operation, your hospital nights, VIP transfers between airport, hospital and hotel, your surgical bra and follow-up. Your recovery hotel and flights are booked separately.
Aftercare back home
You fly home with an English-language surgical report for your GP, and send photo check-ins over WhatsApp long after you return.
New to surgery abroad? Our step-by-step guide for UK patients walks you through the whole journey, and the NHS advice on cosmetic surgery abroad is worth reading before you decide — we are happy to answer every question on that checklist.
QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
Will a breast lift make my breasts smaller?
A lift changes shape and position rather than size, though removing excess skin can make breasts look slightly smaller or tighter. If you want more fullness, implants can be added in the same operation; if you want less weight, a reduction with lift does both.
How visible are the scars?
It depends on the technique: around the areola only, lollipop or anchor. All sit where bras and bikini tops cover them and fade substantially over 6–12 months. Your surgeon chooses the shortest scar that can deliver your lift.
Can I breastfeed after a breast lift?
Many women can, as most techniques keep the nipple connected to the milk ducts — but it cannot be guaranteed. If you are planning children soon, it is usually better to have the lift afterwards.
Can I have a lift and implants at the same time?
Yes — lift with augmentation is one of the most requested combinations, particularly after breastfeeding. One anaesthesia, one recovery; your surgeon confirms whether a single-stage operation suits your tissue.
How long do the results last?
A lift resets the clock but does not stop it. With a stable weight and good support, results typically last many years; pregnancy and big weight changes are the main things that can stretch the result again.
Do breast implants need replacing?
Implants are not lifetime devices, and some women need further surgery in the future to replace or remove them. Your surgeon explains the implant options and the follow-up you should plan for.
How long do I need to stay in Antalya?
Around 5 days: two nights in hospital, then a short hotel stay until your fit-to-fly review.
When can I go back to work and exercise?
Desk work is usually possible after 1–2 weeks. Avoid heavy lifting and upper-body exercise for about 6 weeks, then build back up with your surgeon’s clearance.
Which hospital is the surgery performed in?
At Anatolia Hospital in Antalya, one of NewMe’s contracted institutions, accredited by Temos for Quality in Medical Care.
Is the hotel included?
No. Your package covers the operation, your hospital nights, VIP transfers, your surgical bra and follow-up. Hotel nights are booked separately, and we can arrange a hotel close to the hospital for you.
