OVERVIEW
What is a Brazilian butt lift?
A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a two-in-one body contouring operation: fat is removed by liposuction from areas such as the abdomen, waist, flanks or thighs, purified, and transferred to the buttocks for a fuller, more shapely result. At NewMe it takes 2 to 4 hours under general anaesthetic at Anatolia Hospital in Antalya, with the fat placed only under the skin using ultrasound guidance. Most UK patients stay about 5 days.
Why patients choose fat transfer: the result looks and feels natural because it is your own tissue, the liposuction slims your waist at the same time, and once the transferred fat has established a blood supply — usually within 3–6 months — it behaves like any other fat in your body. There are no implants to replace.
MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICE
BBL or buttock implants: which is right for me?
For most patients seeking natural enhancement, fat transfer is the preferred choice — provided you have enough donor fat. Your surgeon checks this and tells you honestly if you don’t.
| Feature | BBL (fat transfer) | Buttock implants |
|---|---|---|
| Look and feel | Natural — your own tissue | Can feel firmer and less natural |
| Foreign material | None | Silicone implant |
| Body contouring | Liposuction is part of the operation | Not included |
| Long-term maintenance | None once the fat has settled | Implants may need replacing |
| Main requirement | Enough donor fat to harvest | Suitable for very slim patients |
IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?
Am I a candidate for a BBL?
Good candidates have enough fat to harvest and are in good general health. Send photos for a free assessment and our surgeons review your case personally.
✓ You have enough fat in donor areas such as the abdomen, waist, back or thighs
✓ Your BMI is roughly 22–30 and your weight is stable
✓ You are a non-smoker, or willing to stop at least 4 weeks before and after surgery
✓ You are in good general health and not planning a pregnancy soon
Very slim patients may not have enough donor fat, and patients with a BMI over 35 may be advised to lose weight first.
THE PROCEDURE
How does a BBL work?
The operation takes 2 to 4 hours under general anaesthetic — never under local anaesthetic in a clinic.
1
Fat harvesting
Liposuction slims your abdomen, waist, back or thighs and collects the fat for transfer.
2
Fat processing
The harvested fat is purified so that only healthy fat cells are kept.
3
Ultrasound-guided transfer
The fat is injected in small amounts into the layer under the skin, above the buttock muscle, with ultrasound guidance — the key safety step in modern BBL surgery.
YOUR SURGEONS
Who will perform my BBL?
BBL surgery at NewMe is performed by our two board-certified plastic surgeons, supported by experienced anaesthesiologists and post-operative nursing staff.
Op. Dr. Houtan Zolfagharpour
Board-certified plastic surgeon and NewMe’s lead body contouring specialist — liposuction and fat transfer are the core of his practice, with precise techniques for natural, proportionate curves.
Op. Dr. Bahadır Demirkan
Board-certified plastic surgeon, former Assistant Professor and TUS top-100 graduate — careful surgical precision in body contouring with a keen eye for anatomical harmony.
YOUR HOSPITAL
Where is my BBL performed?
Your operation and your hospital nights take place at Anatolia Hospital in Antalya — one of NewMe’s contracted institutions, accredited by Temos for Quality in Medical Care. An anaesthetist looks after you during surgery and the hospital’s nursing team cares for you around the clock while you are an inpatient. After discharge you recover in a hotel nearby, with our coordinators checking on you until your fit-to-fly review. BBL surgery is only ever performed in a fully equipped hospital with an intensive care unit — never in a clinic and never under local anaesthetic.
RECOVERY
What is recovery like after a BBL?
Week 1
Compression garment worn continuously, walking from day one and no direct sitting on your buttocks — your BBL pillow shifts pressure to your thighs. Fit-to-fly review around day 5.
Week 2–3
Still no direct sitting; desk work is possible with your pillow or standing. Bruising and swelling settle steadily.
Week 3–6
Normal sitting returns gradually, and light exercise resumes with your surgeon’s clearance.
Month 3–6
Some of the transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed; what remains has established a blood supply and your final shape is visible.
SAFETY
Is a BBL safe?
BBL carries more risk than many cosmetic operations, and UK health bodies have warned about unsafe practice. The most serious risk — fat entering the large veins of the buttock — is linked to fat being injected into or under the muscle. That is why our surgeons inject fat only under the skin, with ultrasound guidance, in a hospital with intensive care. We recommend reading the NHS overview of surgical fat transfer before you decide.
Common and expected
Bruising, swelling, numbness and discomfort when sitting; part of the transferred fat being reabsorbed, so some volume settles over the first months.
Less common
Lumpy areas or hardened fat (fat necrosis), oil cysts, slight asymmetry, fluid collections and infection.
Rare but serious
Fat embolism (fat entering the bloodstream), blood clots in the legs or lungs, and reactions to the anaesthetic.
How we reduce your risk: ultrasound-guided, subcutaneous-only fat transfer following current international guidance; general anaesthesia with an experienced anaesthesiology team; a hospital with an intensive care unit and 24-hour nursing; careful patient selection — we decline patients for whom BBL is not appropriate; and clot prevention plus a fit-to-fly review before you travel home.

QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
How long do BBL results last?
Results are permanent once the transferred fat establishes a blood supply, typically within 3–6 months. Some fat is naturally reabsorbed, which your surgeon allows for. Keep a stable weight and your result stays stable.
How much of the transferred fat survives?
Part of the transferred fat — often around a third — is naturally reabsorbed in the first months. Your surgeon plans for this, and the fat that remains is permanent.
How long before I can sit normally?
Avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for 2–3 weeks; your BBL pillow lets you sit safely by shifting pressure to your thighs. Most patients return to normal sitting gradually between weeks 3 and 6.
How do I manage the flight home?
Your surgeon clears you to fly at your fit-to-fly review. Use your BBL pillow on the plane, wear your compression garment and walk the aisle regularly.
Am I a good candidate?
Good candidates have enough donor fat, a BMI of roughly 22–30, good skin elasticity and good general health. Very slim patients may not have enough fat — your surgeon will say so honestly and suggest alternatives.
Is BBL safe?
BBL carries real risks, which is why technique matters. Our surgeons inject fat only under the skin with ultrasound guidance, in a Temos-accredited hospital with intensive care, and decline patients for whom it is not appropriate.
Can I combine a BBL with other procedures?
Yes — a BBL pairs naturally with a tummy tuck or extended liposuction (Lipo 360°). Your surgeon advises what is safe to combine in your case.
How long do I need to stay in Antalya?
Around 5 days: two nights in hospital, then a short hotel stay until your fit-to-fly review.
Which hospital is the surgery performed in?
At Anatolia Hospital in Antalya, one of NewMe’s contracted institutions, accredited by Temos for Quality in Medical Care.
Is the hotel included?
No. Your package covers the operation, your hospital nights, VIP transfers, compression garments, your BBL pillow and follow-up. Hotel nights are booked separately, and we can arrange a hotel close to the hospital for you.
