OVERVIEW
What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty — also called nose reshaping or a nose job — is surgery to change the shape or size of the nose. When the septum (the wall between the nostrils) is straightened in the same operation to improve breathing, it is called septorhinoplasty. At NewMe, rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthetic by Dr. Bahadır Demirkan at Anatolia Hospital in Antalya; you stay one night in hospital, and most UK patients fly home around day 7, once the splint has been removed.
What can rhinoplasty change? A dorsal hump, a droopy, wide or bulbous tip, wide nostrils, a crooked nose after an injury, or a nose that looks too large for the face — and, at the same time, breathing problems caused by a deviated septum. The aim is a nose that fits your face, not a standard template.
TYPES
Which type of rhinoplasty is right for me?
The technique depends on what needs to change and whether breathing needs to be improved. Dr. Bahadır recommends the approach after reviewing your photos and examining your nose.
| Type | What it involves | Usually suits |
|---|---|---|
| Closed rhinoplasty | All incisions are made inside the nostrils, so there is no visible scar | Smaller changes, such as reducing a hump or refining the bridge |
| Open rhinoplasty | A small incision across the skin between the nostrils gives full access to the cartilage; the scar is usually very hard to see once healed | Detailed tip work and larger changes |
| Septorhinoplasty | The septum is straightened to improve airflow, and the outside of the nose is reshaped in the same operation | Patients with a blocked nose or breathing difficulty as well as cosmetic concerns |
| Revision rhinoplasty | Corrects the result of a previous nose operation, sometimes using cartilage grafts | Patients unhappy with an earlier rhinoplasty, assessed case by case |
IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?
Am I a candidate for rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty can address shape, size, symmetry and breathing in one operation. Suitability is confirmed by our surgeon after photo analysis and consultation.
✓ You are unhappy with a dorsal hump, droopy or bulbous tip, wide nostrils or asymmetry
✓ You have breathing difficulties from a deviated septum — corrected in the same operation (septorhinoplasty)
✓ You are 18+ with fully developed facial features and realistic expectations of a natural result

THE PROCEDURE
How does rhinoplasty surgery work?
The operation takes 1.5 to 3 hours under general anaesthetic and follows three main stages.
1
3D planning
Your surgeon analyses your facial proportions and discusses the target shape with you — the goal is a nose that fits your face, not a template.
2
Reshaping
Using open or closed (scarless) technique, bone and cartilage are refined — ultrasonic (piezo) instruments minimise bruising where suitable.
3
Splint & recovery
A light splint protects the new shape for a week. You stay one night in hospital, then recover at your hotel until splint removal on day 7.
YOUR SURGEON
Who will perform my rhinoplasty?
Op. Dr. Bahadır Demirkan
Board-certified plastic surgeon, former Assistant Professor and TUS top-100 graduate. At NewMe he leads facial aesthetic surgery — rhinoplasty, facelift and eyelid surgery — planning every nose around the proportions of the whole face.
YOUR HOSPITAL
Where is my rhinoplasty performed?
Your operation and your hospital night take place at Anatolia Hospital in Antalya, one of NewMe’s contracted institutions. An anaesthetist looks after you during surgery and the hospital’s nursing team cares for you overnight. The next day you move to a hotel nearby, and our coordinators check on you daily until your splint is removed and your surgeon clears you to fly.
RECOVERY
What is recovery like after rhinoplasty?
Day 1–7
Splint on, a blocked nose, mild swelling and bruising around the eyes. Splint removed at your day-7 check before flying home.
Week 2–3
Most visible bruising fades by around three weeks; many patients return to work and social life — NHS guidance suggests allowing up to 2 weeks off.
Month 1–3
Around 70% of swelling resolves; strenuous exercise usually returns after 4–6 weeks, and glasses and sports gradually return with surgeon approval.
Month 12
Final refined result as residual tip swelling fully settles.
SAFETY
What are the risks of rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a common operation, but like any surgery it carries risks. Your surgeon explains them before you book, and we recommend reading the NHS overview of nose reshaping as well.
Common and expected
Breathing mainly through your mouth for about a week, a stiff or numb nose, swelling and bruising around the eyes, and light nosebleeds in the first few days.
Less common
Minor asymmetry or small irregularities, a result that differs from what you hoped for, heavier nosebleeds and infection. Occasionally a small revision is needed once swelling has settled.
Rare but serious
Permanent breathing difficulty, damage to the septum, a change in sense of smell, a blood clot in a vein and reactions to the anaesthetic.
How we reduce your risk: honest planning around what your nose and skin can realistically achieve; checking your septum and airway, not just the outside shape; stopping smoking and avoiding blood-thinning medicines and supplements before surgery as your surgeon advises; and a day-7 check before you fly home.

FOR UK PATIENTS
Planning a rhinoplasty in Turkey from the UK
NHS and rhinoplasty
The NHS does not usually fund nose reshaping for cosmetic reasons — only when it is needed for breathing — so most UK patients have it done privately.
Direct flights, about 4 hours
Antalya has direct flights from London, Manchester, Birmingham and other UK airports. UK passport holders can visit Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days.
What your package covers
The operation, your hospital night, VIP transfers between airport, hospital and hotel, and your day-7 splint removal and check. Your recovery hotel and flights are booked separately.
Aftercare back home
You fly home with an English-language medical report for your GP, and our coordinators follow up with you on WhatsApp, including photo reviews as the swelling settles.

QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
Will my nose look “done”?
Our surgeon plans every rhinoplasty around your facial proportions — the aim is a nose people don’t notice, not one they do. During consultation you review the planned changes together before anything is decided.
Is rhinoplasty painful?
Most patients report pressure and congestion rather than pain. Discomfort is well controlled with standard medication, and modern techniques such as piezo surgery significantly reduce bruising and swelling.
Can breathing problems be fixed at the same time?
Yes — a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates can be corrected in the same operation (septorhinoplasty), improving both how your nose looks and how it functions.
How long do I need to stay in Antalya?
Around 7 days: one night in hospital, then recovery at a hotel nearby until your splint is removed on day 7 and your surgeon clears you to fly.
When can I go back to work?
Most patients return to desk work after 1–2 weeks, once the splint is off and bruising has faded enough to feel comfortable. Physical work and contact sports need longer — your surgeon will confirm your timeline.
When can I wear glasses and exercise again?
Glasses resting on the bridge of the nose are usually avoided for several weeks while the bones settle; your surgeon will tell you when it is safe. Light walking is encouraged straight away, and strenuous exercise usually returns after 4–6 weeks.
When will I see my final result?
You’ll see the new shape as soon as the splint comes off, but subtle swelling — especially at the tip — settles gradually. The truly final result appears around the 12-month mark.
Can you correct a previous nose job?
Often, yes. Revision rhinoplasty is more complex than a first operation and is assessed case by case; surgeons usually wait until swelling from the earlier surgery has fully settled. Send photos of your nose from the front, side and below for an honest opinion.
Which hospital is my rhinoplasty performed in?
Your rhinoplasty is performed by Dr. Bahadır Demirkan at Anatolia Hospital in Antalya, one of NewMe’s contracted institutions. You have your operation under general anaesthetic and stay one night as an inpatient before moving to a nearby hotel for the rest of your recovery.
Is the hotel included?
No. Your package covers the operation, your hospital night, VIP transfers and your follow-up checks. Recovery hotel nights are booked separately, and we can arrange a hotel close to the hospital for you.
